On Friday, we spent nearly the entire class time discussing the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement of the 1960s. It has been 40 years since the death of Dr. King, and about 45 years since spoke to the nation about his dream. So, in 2008 can we say that Dr. King's dream has become a reality? What evidence do we have today that his dream has come true? Or, do we have further to go to reach that dream? If you don't feel his dream has come true yet, what do you think still needs to be done? Can we do anything to help the relationship between blacks and whites improve?
Remember, I want to know what you think and feel. I'm not looking for memorized answers or for you to tell me what you learned from the video. I am providing links to both of the speeches that we discussed and to the video that we watched. I encourage you to watch and listen. In fact, encourage your parents and siblings to watch and listen with you. It's important to always reflect on holidays that celebrate those that have sacrificed their lives to make our world a better place.

Well,
We did not really talk about Dr. Luther King Jr on Friday. Because we were the class that was talking to much.
But here goes what i know.
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream.
To stop the slavery. He believed slavery was not right. He had a dream to stop the slavary. And he did. Or most people think there is still slavery in the world. I have to say, i agree, some whites dislike blacks, and some blacks dislike whites. I dont think some people understand that we are all people. And we are all different.
Whats on the outside doesnt matter. Its whats on the inside. I could care less about the color of skin. Slavery is a problem. Im not going to lie, we do still have it in the world, imature people that dont know what to do in life, pick on different people. Martin Luther changed the way I look at people. And he really should changed your perspevtive too.
The way I feel, is that some people are way to judemental. I think we should all get along in life, and stop the slavery that still exists.
Martin Luther did change the world.
He stopped most of the slavery.
I mean, everyone (supposibly) is treated equal, and fair. And thats the way it should be. There should be no slavery. Some one needs to put a stop to it. Martin Luther did a wonderful job on his speech, he helped people, people who were suffering. The blacks are treated equal to the whites. And the whites are treated equal to the blacks. No one gets any privlages, how you act, is how you choose. But when you blame someone else for unfairness, thats unfair. There is nothing more unfair then slavery. Sometimes i wonder why anyone would want to do anything amugst these lines, to a living human being. Talk about unfair.
Martin Luther tried his best, and its sad to say, that some people just didnt care what he had to say.
So people just ignored his thoughts, and his dreams. I say,
stop the slavery, and lets all be equal. (:
Also,
I think we need to go further to achieve Martin Luther King Jr's dreams. We are almost there. All's we need is for people to help. And people to stop the slavery.
Ok um I don't know too much about him but heres what I do.....
Ok MLK had a dream that everyone could live in peace equally. That blcks should not be separated from whites. To me it doent matter it's just the pigment of your skin but some people have predjudice because they think they should serve us. That was truly unfair so Martin Luther King decided to fight against it. We've all heard about his famous speech "I Have a Dream". It was to bring blacks and whites together in harmony. Thats just what he did. Unfourtanatley, he was assasinated almost 40 years ago. He will always be remembred by america by bringing peace.
Thats truly what I know, I know not that much but hopefully I can learn more.
Oh and I'm working on trying to forget about Friday... it's all in our past but we can start fresh tomorrow!!!!
ummmm oops!!! i meant Blacks not blcks typo
Marther luther King Jr was a good man who only wanted freedom and to make things fair, not by the color of your skin but by your actions.Something that rang in my head when i was watching the 3 segments is when he said let freedom ring, which means to me,let freedom finally begin.I agree with becca when she said that he had a dream to stop slavery. He was risking his life all for us and our freedom.Skin color is not important.all that is important is that we all are human bean.i have one question that i didnt understand though.when they said he got stabbed, why.was it because he was trying to speak the truth about something right.
that is what i believe in!!!!!!!!!

"I had a dream, that people won't be judged by the color of their skin, but by the contents of their heart.Well, I think Martin Luther King's dream has come true.African Americans have come a long way,in fact alot of the best players on the FSU football team are African American.Martin Luther King didn't care if you were black, blue, red,or white,he just wanted us to live together in peace.Other than the war in Iraq were pretty much in perfect peace. So yes,Martin Luther King's dream came true.
ummm we didnt talk about him friday but what ever
Martian Luther King was a civil rights movment leader that gave speeches how you soulden't be judged be the color of your skin
How there sould be peace and equality between blacks and whites
He also belived the slavery sold become eleagle and that u sould not be treated badly because of the color of your skin
Martin Luther King Jr. was a famous man for something we all remember today.Stopping slavery between keeping the blacks and whites apart.Since the past to now this was a tragic moment. But thanks to a sertaint dream by Martin Luther King Jr.we can now enjoy liife as should be.From my point of view I think it was one of the greatest moments in history.Unfortunately the assassination of MLK was by the ignorant James Earl Ray.Luckly he was jailed for life and died a dreadful death in jail. From this day on we will still remember Martin Luther King Jr. as one of the greatest men in black history.
Martin Luther King is one very great arrican american and he is the reason why mariah or anire or India or the other dark colored kids writing right now he is the reason for them evn in this area they could still be in a white or black water fountains and the certain places where to sit on the bus. Well I love Martiun Luther King and I really don't like it when people say MLK because Martin Luther King is much more than just MLK he is a really great hero and role model although even today he would probably be dead if what happened to him happened and I never knew but Martin Luther King, his real first name isn't MARTIN it is Micheal!!! Oh and I also agree with Beccs a lot of how she said or in this case typed " I don't understand that we are all just people" well I sure know a lot about Mr. King I once wrote an entire 6 page essay on him. Well I will type it all right now here I go wait never mind I lost it 2 monthes ago fell in our fire place well it fell "accidently". Well that is ALL I have to say about Martin Luther King or in this case it is MLK!
Oh when I said arrican I meant african WHOOOOOOPS!!!!!!!
In some ways I think that Martin Luther King Jr's dream as came true but I also think that we still need to go a little further into making his dream fully come true.By helping people of different race change their minds about what they think, about each other and just get along.
See You Guys TOMMOROW!!!!
(:(:(:(:(:
I think that some people need to understand that we are just people and that the color does not matter. Martin Luther King Jr. Did help the world in different ways about the world and helping slavery its just not right for a white man to own a black man to do there work for them. Why do people just wanna kill other people by slavery. its not right because its just a bunch of people in the world that wants to be mean to other people by there color and its wrong and alot of people dont understand it and i think it would help if people knew how mean they are by judging people just on that.
I think that we need some work done with the world about this because i know its not all done that there still is some out there some where in the world and I think it is work that white people have more power than black people back then it does not matter what color they are. If thats what people thought then they are wrong because thats not what people matter God made us the way he wanted us to.
But I think that MLK was a great thing he did and I know that in the future kids will understand more about it and that the slavery will stop!!
I agree with Weston and who was that person that left no name??
I had a dream that the world was in peace and that the slavery was gone forever!..
oh and im trying to forget Friday thing and lets not get there no more..
Oh Becca I agree with you that more people should get in voled with this and that we should start a club or something at our school next year about that and talk about ways to get that to start!
Martin Luther King had a dream that one day all black, white, will come to gather as one big family. WE will go to the same school and drink out the same water font.MLK dream became true because not only we go to the same school, black's know can sit to the front of a bus,eat at any table in a restraunt and use public bathroom.MLK changed alot of things in people's lives he made things more equal and right.
Martin Luther king had a dream to change the world which he did for a lot of people back then in the day when white and blacks could not sit by each other blacks in the back white in the front when they had a um ceremony in the middle of the town DR MARTIN LUTHER KING HAD A DREAM OH MY GOD he got shot right in the chest while giving his speech but that was back in the day which the day is today well see you to tomorrow peace
I also agree with Rainey,
everything she said,
she is one smart cookie(:
Kacey,
wow,
I agree with you when you say
that MLK's goal was to stop the blacks from sitting in the back of the bus and that they should be treated equal.
Yes, He did get shot...Thanks for pointing that out(:
I agree with Brittany,
It is just the pigment of our skin,
and truely,
it doesnt matter. How does that affect how you should be treated of how you act.?
It shouldn't.!
Good job - but remember that facts are important. Slavery ended about 70-80 years before King's time (under Abraham Lincoln).
Also, MLK was not shot while giving a speech, but the day after giving his "I've been to the mountaintop" speech.
Keep up the good work - and pay close attention to detail.
thank you becca i agree with u more but i also agree with west and walker but more wit becca i think that his dream was to treat others with respect find out what that means to martin luther king i like a part where you said the way i feel is that some people are way to judgmental HEY BECCA you spelled judgmental
Okay I had a dream the other night about this whole thing and I was wondering what else I should say and here I go.
I had a dream that MLK came back to earth and just stopped everything that was going on because its wrong that people don't like some people because of there color there color does not mean nothing nor what they believe in because whats the point of making fun of them when you can be getting to know them and join them as a friend instead of judging there color. Thats just wrong.
But I think MLK did a lot of work but I think whoever killed him should not have done that because what MLK did not do nothing wrong he made a speech about what was wrong with the world and that was something that was a good thing and I think that if MLK was alive today he would be upset but then at the same time happy of what he has done but that people still are judging people. Come on would it be wrong if a person was blue? or green? I think not its just wrong!! and MLK brought black and white to unite.
MLK was not just about the color he was about bringing the equal right to all womens and blacks and whites just not about the color.
But yeah I think that all the jokes about whites and blacks should stop because that does hurt and its just wrong and that needs to stop in the world not just by the US but by everyone in the whole world!
Back when Martin Luthor King Jr. was a boy the whites were seperated from the blacks. The whites always got first pick on everything.Like if they were getting on the bus the whites would get to chose were they wanted to sit and watever was left over the blackes would take it.
But Matin always had a dream that one day they could mix together and have the same rights as everybody else.He wanted to have a free country, no more slavery no more having seperate schools, just to be the same.
When Martin made that speech everything changed. The whites and blacks were hanging out together and no more different schools.Without Martin Luthor King nothing would be the same as it is today. Some people just dont wanted to bieleive what he said and want to have blacks and whites seperate. But as for me I am happy that we are all together as one.Im am also glad we have a Martin Luthor King day, we owe him that much because now we have fredom and we should appreciate him for that.
Kit Kat has the right thing she is talking about :).
but yeah Caylin you are on the right track you said it better than me and I think that the dream should be in everyones dream cause i wish it would be
hi everyone this is Holly, the anonymous one was me, so, Martin Luther King was a really great guy.I bet if there was more people like Martin Luther King then we wouldn't be in this war.
What i know about Martin Luther King is that he had a very strong dream in what he believed in.
Dr. Martin's dreams was to stop the fued between blacks and whites to make the world a more peaceful place. His dream was to stop slavery. He had a dream that blacks and whites should share the same school together. He had a dream that african americans and whites could share the same water fountain as oneanother. He had a dream that blacks and whites could become married if they wanted.
I loved that he had a dream because just by hearing about slavery I don't like it eather. I admit there is still some rasism out there but we all are the same race just with diffrent skin color. Like the old saying don't judge a book by it's cover. What I mean is don't judge people by there skin color but by there inside.
I have a dream that I'll se most of you tommorrow peace.
I AGREE WITH BECCA A LOT WITH WHAT SHE SAID SHE IS RIGHT
I hope every one is going to blog so Mr. Veliz can brag on us continuously
We did'nt talk about him friday,.... any ways,
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. has literlly changed the world. He made it so people relizied that black,or white were all even. And i think we've pretty much have acomplished that dream, but there are some people who still dont reliz that great, great dream, who really need to.And if MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. we're still here today, he would be proud to know we have changed it really, really has. And i really dont understand why any one would use another person for there own selfesh wants because of there race. Now that is just WRONG very, very wrong! and i really agree with mostly Becca and really...the whole class. like when becca said "some people are why to judjemental". And when rainy said "GOD made us the way he wanted us to be". He really did but some people will never understand that.:( , but most people in the world do understand that raceisimn is wrong.:)!!! I have a dream that every one will follow MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.'S dream!!!!!!!!!
hi,guy's see you thursday(tommarow)!!!!!!!!!
Everyone needs to do this so we can be on Mr. Veliz good side cause i don't wanna be on his bad side!!!
when i said "some people are why to .........." i ment (WAY) not why, oooppp's hi everyone hi Mr.Veliz
candace I agree with you and becca because people need to make that dream come true. Cause with people getting mad at everyone for 1 thing witch is the name calling and the jokes about the other colors.!
The world would not be perfect with out that but it would be a better place for kids and adults to be in with out being insulted. Because why do people care what other people say well there are some things that i get but like whats the point of making fun of someone for what they look like, like there color its just pure mean..
MLK wanted that dream to stop but by over the years it gets worse but then better at the same time. I know its not like in a night it would be better but in a year it could be better for like schools and parents to teacher there kids more about him and let them no not to do that because its just mean and wrong and I know that schools don't like when kids do that cause of the meanness.
Like what MLK said "I have a dream that everyone would be treated equally". He was on of the people that helped womens to be able to vote he was the one that disliked that because it was mean to the girls.
He was the one that allowed blacks to drink from the same water fountain as white and to go to school but everyone needs to understand thats just not what he was about he was mostly about equal rights and for everyone to be treated with the same rights and everything not just one color!.
I think that the more people understand MLK that all the name calling and stuff about the color of skin would stop and I hope that it will happen through out time because it is upsetting that people still do that and its just pure wrong!!
Okay I'll see yall tomorrow in class!!
AND WAT ANERI SAID
WESTON AND MAIRHA
I think that his dream has been fulfilled because whites and blacks are able to go to school together and sit together. Also when you say what can we do to get whites & blacks to further and better get along I don't think nothing would help the situation
Good job Jay
I also agree with Rainy
Good spelling K.C.
thank you Travis but I dont see you comment come on people its 9:12 pm and no one is commenting no more and its really upsetting!
Martin Luther King said that we shouldn't judge each other by the color of our skin, but by our personality. I AGREE! We shouldn't be judged just because we are darker than others, lighter than others. We shouldn't be judged at all.Because people are comparing us to them,we are not them. We are who we are. MLK wanted to stop slavery. It was not right for people to be owned by someone. We own ourselves. We don't need someone to tell us who or what we will be,what job we are going to. That's our decisions! Not anyone elses.
Saying you don't like someone just because they are black, brown, hispanic, etc. That's just stupid. we are all people! We may not look the same, but we still are all people.MLK did not care what color anybody was. He just wanted to have peace. Wanted people to except each other for who they really are. And that's how I ant to live. That's how everybody should want to live.
MLK has enspiired me to like people for their personality. He has changed our world today.Everybody of every color are going to school together. We don't have any seperate schools for people. Though slavery might still be going on, MLK is still effecting people's lives. It sure is changing mine.
Woops! I made a lot of typos! My bad!!!
