Globalization: What is it and why is it important?

Update – Wednesday Afternoon
I’m sorry that missed you all again today, but I found out on my way to school this morning that my baby daughter would be released from the hospital today to come home. I will see you tomorrow. As you learned in class today, I am extending the blog deadline until Friday morning at 9:30 am. Make sure you read the next paragraph before beginning your assignment.

Most that have commented have done a pretty good job. However, some have missed the point that I made about writing a short essay response. In other words – 2 or 3 sentences just does not get it. Exercise your brains and give me some great comments. This is not a completion exercise. I am looking for evidence of real thought. Every one of you has the ability to do quality work, but ability is worth nothing unless it’s put to use.

Beginning of Post:

On Monday, you were assigned pages 101-106 to read as classwork - Time Reports: Our Shrinking World.

Combine what you learned from the Time Reports section with topics we have discussed in class concerning globalization - things such as cultural diffusion, emigration, and the movement of jobs and industries to other countries (Chapter 3 will be helpful here). After analyzing all of this information, write a thoughtful comment that addresses the following questions. Please do not feel that you are limited to just these questions. You can also include any well thought out ideas of your own.
  1. What is globalization?
  2. What are some of the benefits of globalization, for both Americans and non-Americans?
  3. Is globalization good for everyone? If not, who suffers in a globalized world?
  4. What are some of the things that young people today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world?

Very Important:
Your comment should consist of a well-written mini-essay. IM slang or abbreviations will not be accepted. Be careful to use proper grammar, correct spelling, and academic language.

Your comments must be posted by 9:30 am, on Thursday, November 8. Late comments will earn no more than half credit.

Do not hesitate to research the topic further. There is much information available online dealing with globalization. Try a Google or Yahoo search.

What is globalization?
It is were that certain part is growing.

What are some of the benefits of globalization, for both Americans and non-Americans?
a benefit is like that we are getting more people witch means that we could get more money but then a bad part about it like if they are coming for China then we could be in big trouble becuase thats were we get most of our food and things from so then we would lose it all.

Is globalization good for everyone? If not, who suffers in a globalized world?
It is good for some people like for the U.S its good for us becuause thats means cheaper products.
No because if China lose's so many people then they could not sell anything to any country or trade becuase no-one would be working for them.

What are some of the things that young people today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world?
They would have to be prepare for jobs becuase they will not just be competing with the person that works in your office they will (could) be competing with people from China and they would work better.
To buy a house to becuase they will be trying to buy it from someone but then if someone else will pay for it more they could get it.
There is many more reasons but there is to much to say but you do need it in everything you do really like in school you are trying to get to the next grade and sometimes that can get competive.
And if you are a teacher at school you are competing sometimes to see who the better teacher is so yeah everything you do has it in it.

hey class whats up?

Well first of all, in my own words globalization is the result of technology, communication, and transportation, “shrinking” the world. Which means the world seems to be getting smaller because people all over the world could have the same jobs as us.

The benefits for Americans and non-Americans are that we can trade foods and/or goods. For example, China makes most of America’s goods. America also has NAFTA, which stands for North American Free Trade Agreement, for poor countries who do not get even distribution we send them food and goods.

Globalization is not good for everyone because poor countries don’t have the things to trade so globalization does not help them much. Poor countries like Africa and some of Asia are mostly the ones who suffer in a globalized world.

Young people like us will probably have to prepare by us going to college, more and more jobs require a college education. We will probably have to have technology and have much knowledge as well.

In addition, I believe that adults now can help the youth by encouraging them to go to college and learn about technology and how it is “shrinking” the world. So that’s pretty much globalization in my words.

See you guys in class tomorrow!

Bye!

Globalization makes the world what it is today. Import and Export is a part of Globalization. Globalization is not something new, people, for thousands of years, have been trading land from great distances. Globalization raises people’s life customs. Some of the benefits of Globalization are that we get to eat different foods, and receive different fuels, good education, basically changes people’s lives.
All countries are not as industrialized as we are, so I think the countries that are "poor" suffer from Globalization the most because they can’t afford to import and export. But for other countries, there are a lot of benefits people receive from Globalization. Internet plays a role in Globalization because people in the U.S can talk with people from the other side of the world.
Children, in order to live in a globalized world, must have education. They will not get around in a Globalized world without some sort of education.
So basically the world without Globalization would not be what it is today. Just the fact that people have a home to live in, or a car to drive, is completely amazing. The advance in technology these days changes our lives completely: think about it, no phone. How would you communicate with people across the world? No computer? That means no Internet…or for that matter, no IM. Electricity…without it the world would be dark as anything except for in the day when there is light outside. Globalization plays a big role in your life and mine.

What is globalization... globalization is increasng interconectednessof people and places as a result of advances in transportation, communication, and information technologies that cause, politial, econmic, and cultural converge.
Some benefits of having globalization for both Americans and non-Americans is you can meet new people that are totally different from you, you get to learn about a different and unique backround, culture. Maybe you can even learn a new language.
Globalization I think is good for everyone, it's a great way to get out of your comfort zone. To those who suffer,.. I really feel sorry for them because they have no clue about life n other cultures and that's a big thing because there is a lot og divercity on this planet.
What I have to say to all the young people is go to school learn about other cultures, what they do, how they dress, what they eat,and learn another language.
Lastly, have fun go out to the unknown go and discover things because you only have one life so use it wisely.

I believe the definition of globalization is where it affects the whole world not just one country. Some, benifits of globalization for both American's and non-American's is mainly that it's easier to exchange currency.I don't agree that globalization is a good thing for everyone, and the people who suffer from it mostly is the average American worker's.The young people of the world will have to learn a foreign language that will probably help them most with globalization.Globalization can help and hurt the nation,so we better prepare for it now.

Globalization is the increase of interconnectedness, some exampies are the increase of transportation .Its important because people in pooer countries may not have planes so it would be hard to escape during an emergency. Most kids cant live without a phone, but 10 years kids in Tokoyo didnt even know what a phone was.Now alot of teenagers in Tokoyo have a phone. Globalization is sometimes really good.

Globalization is the interconnectedness of people and places. Its important because it gives diffrent countries diffrentchoices for food or clothing. For example,a few yours ago China didnt have a McDonalds, now they do.Another example would be cellphones,a few years ago Tokoyo didnt even know what a cellphone was.Now teenagers in tokoyo know what a cellphone is.

What globalization is to me; it is the development of a world culture and an independent world economy. Globalization has a benefit on both American and non-Americans. The benefit it has on the both of them is some places like Mexico get better and more skilled job workers so they get paid more and some Americans get better goods by swapping on the Internet. Globalization hasn’t been good for everyone. The poorest countries have seen little or no increase in trade. Many Americans’ jobs have moved to countries where wages are low. Younger people are going to prepare for a wider gap and to raise money for their country.

Globalization describes the ongoing global trend toward the freer flow of trade and investment across boarders and the resulting integration of the international economy. It can also be described as the linking together of the world's nations through trade. Globalization also keeps money and goods crossing national borders more than ever before. One of the great benefits of globalization is the manner in which it increases wage rates and purchasing power in previously low income countries. Globalization has proven many advantages, standards of living is the most accurate of a nation’s well being. Over a span of forty years, the infant morality rate in Mexico dropped from 93 to 29. The life expectancy for the average Chinese citizen increased from 36 to 70 years. Even the countries of sub-Saharan Africa made improvements in infant morality, life expectancy, and adult literacy. China benefits from globalization and has been able to fund by selling its products on the world market, but it hasn't been good for everyone. The poorest countries have seen little or no increase in trade. Low-skilled poor living in less developed countries worry they are not receiving their share of the fruits. Industrial countries have more to trade than developing countries, therefore, the fruits of globalization haven't been spread evenly. Kenya, for instance, tends to create new jobs slowly. Places like Canada tend to create them more quickly. Africa is barely able to create any new jobs at all. Globalization offers hope for the world's poorest, hope that one day they may enjoy the fruits of the West's liberal traditions. Despite the benefits, critics still avidly express their disaffection of globalization and free trade, mostly for its inequities, security issues, and unpredictability.

1. Globalization is the process of linking the world through trade.

2. Globalization gives people work and occupation around the world.

3. Globalization is not americanizing the whole world; for example, poor countries suffer from globalization.

4. Start working and do a good job at it. Stay in school, get an education and live a good life.

mr.veliz u dont have to put this in my grade but im sorry i was late on the blog im just trying to bring up my grade!

what is globalization? People around the globe are more connected to each other than ever before. Information and money flow more quickly than ever. Goods and services produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the world. International travel is more frequent. International communication is commonplace.
